Meyersdal, Alberton

In 1856 Jan Meyer acquired 27 acres from his father, Johan George (Org) Meyer's farm, Elandsfontein.  In 1890 he built his home which can still be seen from the N12 highway.

In 1904 General Hendrik Abraham Alberts, an Anglo Boer War veteran, bought a portion of the farm from the son of Jan Meyer, Org Meyer, and named it Alberton.

The first suburb developed was Alberton North, then New Redruth, Randhart, Raceview and Alberante. Over the years, development sprawled out into adjacent areas, and today Alberton is made up of 19 suburbs, including Thokoza, Palmridge, Edenpark and Meyersdal.

Meyersdal is situated on the other side of Meyers Kop. It is a modern suburb with beautiful homes, large mansions and townhouse developments. Properties are expensive, as it is known to be a posh, sophisticated and affluent area.  It has a low crime rate making it a great suburb to raise a family.
